Current Maruti Suzuki Swift
Maruti Suzuki Swift made its debut at the Paris Auto Salon in September 2004. This car gave birth to the Premium Hatchback segment in India.
Being long in the tooth, Maruti Suzuki decided to give its very popular selling car, a heart transplant.
As a result in January 2010 Maruti Suzuki introduced K-series engine powered Swift. Looks were the same, but it had a newer engine!!
Swift’s design and looks, were too old now. And obviously, it was feeling the heat from the competing Premium Hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20, Skoda Fabia, Fiat Grande Punto, and the newly launched Volkswagen Polo.
Swift’s face-lift was eminent as Maruti Suzuki realised that they were loosing a huge chunk of market share to their competitors. This was when i bumped into a few spy pics some weeks back.

Maruti Suzuki had jumped into action and the result was a lighter, longer and more spacious Swift.

The New Swift is expected to be launched in the first half of 2011.
Compared to the current Swift the New Swift’s wheelbase has been increased by 50mm, and the overall length by 90mm. The increase in wheelbase will create more space for rear passengers.
The new bodyshell is lighter and stiffer than before, all thanks to the extensive use of higher strength steel.
Maruti Suzuki claims the Swift, its best-selling model, is much improved dynamically and promises increased performance and improved CO2 emissions and economy.
The Dashboard
Official interior pictures have now been revealed the interiors are more sophisticated and dynamic than the current one. It looks plusher, but the fascia and door surfaces are still hard and the previous bold simplicity has been ousted by a more conventional design. This is very much a case of evolution rather than revolution!!
Swift's Sporty Rear
For the Indian market, the engine that will power this car is likely to be carried over – it’s an evolution of the K-series (K12) motor that powers the current Swift and Ritz. Variable Valve Timing technology that is being used in the European car should also come to India. Just as it did with M16A on the SX4. Suzuki will also continue with the very successful 1.3-Multijet from Fiat, or the DDiS.

Hi,
I have booked a swift vdi limited edition with 14inch alloy wheel.
I am planning to go for 15inch alloywheel with a skirting Kit for a sporty look.
Please advise me on the ground clearance of the 14inch alloy with respect to 15inch alloy wheel .
I am bit worried on the ground clearance on typical indian road.

I would suggest you not to go for the Skirting Kit as our roads are very bad, especially during the rains.
As for the alloy wheels, do not go for an over sized one, stick to 14″ and look for better designs.
Company fitted alloys would look bland. Look at alloys from Aura or Neo, their designs are good and are reliable too!!
When id the revamped swift being launched in India, i heard september,10..is it true

I am plannig to buy a car in the range of 5-6 lakhs , but i am confused among swift and I20 , i like evrything about swift but not the interioirs. Will the new swift have some changes in interior as well, will it be comparable to i20.

I live in Gurgaon and I bought a SWIFT VXI abt a week back and got 1000 Rs petrol filled in that.. it came arnd 18. ltrs.. and now in a weeks time the fuel indicator is just marginally above the E mark.. i am confused really coz my total consumption for the day is just 30 Kms.. I used to own a wagonR earlier and i used to get 500rs petrol filled in that and it used to run the entire week.
Am worried that have i made a mistake by buying Swift K12 engine..
Can you plz explain as to y am i getting an average of mere 7km/ltr??
(Plz note, that coz of the rain, the road conditions in Delhi / NCR are really bad.. so most of the time my car used to be in 2nd gear with AC on)

Hey Aman,
Driving on bad roads in second gear with AC on, is not the reason for your car giving such an abnormally low average of 7 kms/ltr (atleast its not the primary reason, it can be secondary).
I would suggest you to take your car to Maruti’s authorized service center and get it checked by one of their mechanics.
But do not jump to a conclusion that your vehicle has a some fault, or that your decision of buying a K12 engine was wrong. Have a look at the working below.
Working:
You say that, you travel 30 kms a day.
6 working days a week,
and you travel approx. 180 kms per week.
So, 18 ltrs consumed for running 180 kms,
means an average of 10 kms/ltr,
and not 7 kms/ltr as you mentioned in your query above.
If, you are getting an average of 10 kms/ltr,
then your bad road conditions are to be blamed.
Your car should ideally give an average of approx 11.9 kms/ltr in the city and approx. 17 kms/ltr on the highway.
Thanx for the reply, you are saying that the car should give an averarge of 12km/lts in city.. and 17 on highway.. however the maruti ppl has said that with the new K series engine, the avg in city wud be 15 and on highway 18km/ltr..
hence the confusion remains..
